Robin’s Egg Nebula
NGC 1360, commonly known as the Robin's Egg Nebula, is a planetary nebula located in the southern constellation Fornax. It is distinguished by its ellipsoidal shape and blue-green hue, which resembles a robin's egg and is caused by strong emission from ionized oxygen (OIII).
The nebula lies approximately 1,500 light-years away and spans about 3 light-yearsin diameter. Its structure is shaped by a binary central star system, likely consisting of two evolved white dwarfs, whose gravitational interactions and ultraviolet radiation strip electrons from surrounding gases, creating the nebula's intricate filaments and jets.
