Rampaging Baboon Nebula

NGC 6726 is part of a prominent dusty region forming stars within a sprawling molecular cloud complex located approximately 500 light-years away in the constellation Corona Australis. This complex is often referred to as the "Rampaging Baboon Nebula" due to its resemblance to a baboon's head. The eyes of the nebula's apparent face are blue reflection nebulae cataloged as NGC 6726, NGC 6727, NGC 6729, and IC 4812, while the red mouth glows from hydrogen gas emission. The region is also known by other names, such as the "Anteater Nebula," reflecting the complex's varied visual interpretations. Just to the upper left of the nebula's head is the distant globular cluster NGC 6723, situated nearly 30,000 light-years away.
