Benefits

This device allows set-and-forget cooking, perfect for the long grill such as smoking a brisket overnight. I’ve been able to monitor the temperature of the grilling chamber while ensuring the internal temperature is on track. After a while, the probe will provide an estimate of cooking time to allow preparation of side dishes at the perfect time. As you may have noticed, in this one paragraph alone, I’ve used the word “perfect” twice. That’s because this device is perfect. Almost.

If it had one shortfall, it’s software-based. As I move around the house, in and out of range of the accompanying charger that relays probe information to my phone, it sends me alerts that I’ve lost connectivity. I don’t care, I know I’m going to lose connection. I don’t need to be told every two minutes when the software panics as it’s unable to run home to mama (Red October joke there). You cannot turn this particular alert off without disabling all alerts. Not ideal.

Other than this one very minor issue, this device is amazing. I’ve used it on hibachi steaks, 22-hour briskets, and charcoal-roasted lamb shoulders.
