Bode’s And Cigar Galaxy

Messier 81 (Bode's Galaxy) and Messier 82 (the Cigar Galaxy) are a pair of interacting galaxies located approximately 12 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. Discovered by Johann Elert Bode in 1774, M81 is a grand design spiral galaxy similar in structure to the Milky Way, featuring a bright core and faint spiral arms rich in star-forming hydrogen regions. Its companion, M82, is a starburst galaxy distorted into an irregular, cigar-like shape by gravitational interactions with M81. This interaction triggered intense star formation, making M82 significantly more luminous than the Milky Way despite its smaller size.
